Teach The Teacher: Chef Gabi

Yum, Yum, Yum!!
Well, Room S certainly wouldn't send this Chef home. Gabi was our Teach The Teacher this week and she shared a sweet from Brazil. Translated they are called "Little Kisses".
As the lead chef, Gabi was a great leader. She was organised with all the equipment she needed, had her recipe and had a script for her to follow. Taihuka and Zack were very proud to be chosen as her assistants and they certainly showed that they were worthy of the task. They asked questions, listened to instructions and we all learned a lot.
Everyone took a copy of the recipe and we even discussed ways to adapt the recipe.
Thanks Gabi and her team.
Delicious.

Teach the teacher RoomS Nolan

Friday last week I shared about South African money which is called a rand or a pound. The whole class tried counting to ten and saying good morning in Afrikaan. They learned that I speak it at home and I moved to New Zealand when I was little.

Room S Teach The Teacher "Georgia The Magnificent."

Be prepared to be WOWED!
Georgia showed our class a magic trick with playing cards. At first I was dubious as to how this would work. I could see no system or secret marks on the cards. Was this going to work?
Well fancy that, she was able to sort out the "secret" card. Now the hard part, teaching us. We all went away with a buddy and had a practise. Now, we are all are as amazing as Georgia The Magnificent.
Thanks Georgia.

          Rockin' Writing from Room G
Personal Experiences

Carl Jnr
As I get my burger I slurp my lips together. Suddenly, the mayonnaise drips like a tap. Crunch mmmm yummy that taste is miraculous. The juices all come  together like glue on paper.

Fireworks

Fairies everywhere
Twinkle twinkle, excited fairies everywhere!!! Fairies scattered across the lawn playing tag. Then mum yells “Fairies, I think you’re probably hungry. I’ve got a little fairy treat for you!!”
We sprint over  the deck. Mum had ice-blocks for us all.
Yaaaah!!! It was my birthday party today. My friends all dressed-up as Fairies. We had wands, pretty coloured dresses and sparkles on our dresses. We laughed and laughed while we waited for our ice-blocks. They were cold and icy-perfect for after a nice game of tag. They were also juicy and fruity. Brain freeze, brain freeze! Man, I think I needed to eat my ice-block a bit more slowly so no brain freeze!

Conrads teach the treacher

On Monday The amazing Conrad showed Room T how to do magic tricks. The classes favourite trick was jabbing the pencil up his nose and pulling it out his ear. He had 5 magic tricks.

Brodie teaches the class how to make a Paper Popper

I made a paper popper for teach the teacher.
It was weird because I'm not used to kids asking me to fold their paper popper in to place and
how to fold it... To make one, you will need to get an A4 piece of paper and fold it in half long ways and then unfold it. Next, fold it to the first crease and keep folding it to the middle crease and fold it in half and then hold the end piece and pull it up until the corner piece is below the line. When you BANG it hold the bottom.

Mrs Beckers' Body Percussion

Perfect timing. Rm I had their first music session with Mrs Beckers, looking at body percussion. Then Strike Percussion visit us to demonstrate percussion with instruments. What a wonderful day!

Strike Percussion- A Smashing Hit

Wow, we were very lucky to have Strike Percussion perform for the school in the hall today. They were a percussion trio who amazed us with their skills. They performed using a variety of percussion instruments from very loud to very quiet. An enjoyable session!

Jacob hits a 6!

Even with torrential rain Jacob still pulled the game out of the bag and was a winner on the day. Jacob's Teach the Teacher was all about cricket. Rm I had a fantastic time exploring his never ending kit bag and learning about the game. Thanks Jacob, a really enjoyable session.

I hope my class enjoyed them because I worked hard on knowing the recipe by heart. Written by Ella and Anya

2nd you draw a circle  for the head and eyes and a beak.
And last webbed feet and arms and if you want, you can colour it in.

1st for the snake you draw a cartoon S shape.
2nd a 2 sort of shape for a neck.
3rd for end of the snake draw it coming out and put a rattle on the end of the snake.
4th if you want you can put fangs on the snake and colour it in.
The game is called Dueling  Guns and is a fun two player game.
1 you make a gun with your hand and you can point up, down, left or right.
2 if you do the same thing the first person to point to the middle and say bang is the winner of the game.

William's teach the teacher

For teach the teacher I did a science experiment. I used vinegar, baking soda, a bottle and a balloon. I mixed the baking soda and vinegar together which released carbon making the balloon inflate.

Rm I Use their 5 Senses...

In Rm I we are improving our writing by adding detail and description using our 5 senses.

Here is Mrs Palmer's writing:
I went out of Rm I to the hall kitchen. I got the sausage rolls. I asked two boys to deliver them to the staffroom as I had duty.

Room I gave me some feedback: 'No Mrs Palmer! This is boring and it has no details. It is NOT holding the reader's interest.'

So as a class we rewrote it using our 5 senses- smell, taste, touch, hearing and sight.
Rm I's writing:
As I exited Incredible Rm I a tantalising smell tickled my nostrils. I followed the smell to the hall kitchen. I removed the steaming hot sausage rolls from the rustic oven.
Children's voices, bouncing balls, doors slamming and moving feet reminded me it was morning tea time. I scanned the playground for helpful children, spotting two I called them over. As I breathed in the freshly cooked aroma of warm pastry and meat, I just couldn't help myself and I popped two little bites in my mouth. They burned as I swallowed.

Mrs Palmer gave Rm I some feedback: 'Wonderful use of your senses to give interesting, vivid details and description. Well done!'

TEACH THE TEACHER ROOM H

At last Teach the Teacher has started in Room H. Max was our first volunteer and we were glad he was! Max invented a new game called INFECTION BALL TAG which Room H had lots of fun playing.  In fact our Rainbow Pals enjoyed it so much they are going to take it one lunchtime so that others can enjoy it as well.  Well done, Max, great thinking skills!

Rm I's Extra Student?!

Sadly last week one of our class members moved to Wellington. However over the weekend Nicholas got thinking and decided he had a solution, he would bring his cat Mikey to join our class.

Mikey is a cat with shiny black and white fur, gleaming green eyes and a long snake like black tail. Mikey slowly slithers out of the cage watching all the blue smurfs moving around, he's desperately looking for a way out.
He slowly slithers to the door watching the smurfs to see if it's safe.He can feel the air coming through the door, he sits and waits hoping it will open. He decides it won't open so he slinks back into the circle.
Stevie's roaring with excitement. I try to get him to stand up so I can take him around but he won't move, he's glued flat to the floor. Finally I manage to peel him off. I walk around the class, I take him to Stevie. She puts her hand out and gives him a pat. I put him back down. Then I tell some more about him, like how when I was little he used to run up my back and bite me on the neck. Then I put the cage down and he runs into the cage like a cheetah. Then we lock him in safe and sound and my dad Chris takes him home.

Teach the teacher - Mason

Mason introduced the class to coding. No not secret coding, but computer programme coding. The programme he showed us, (Scratch ), is one he has been working on. He was able to make characters move, which certainly was a complex activity.
Mason is only allowed on computers for a limited amount of time each night, so he uses his time carefully to keep adding to the animation he is making.
He wasn't sure if it his something he is going to do as a career, but he certainly enjoys doing it for fun.

Rippa rugby

We were so fortunate to have two Rippa Rugby sessions with Clayton. He showed us some cool games to improve our skills. Each time we got better at working as a team and the basics of Rippa Rugby.
We learned to get our target hands up for passing, how to wear the tags properly, what to do if we rip someone's tag, .... And we had lots of fun.
It's going to be great to play some of the games Clayton taught us.

Teach the teacher - Riley

A mad scientist came to teach in Room S today, Riley.  He came complete with red wig, black lab coat and a PowerPoint to support his experiment.
We waited in anticipation. It certainly was worth it. As he mixed his concoction, we watched quietly, learning from his teaching. Did you know that water has a heavier density than water and that's why oil floats on top? Very interesting.
Finally it got to the last step of adding the alka seltzer tablet. Magic.... Chemical magic. Everyone was impressed.
To test if we were listening to his teaching, he even had a quiz! What are great teacher.
We compared what we know about lava lamps and this experiment. Safety was important too. Ms Ellis held it carefully over a lamp, which made the food colouring glow as intense as lava from deep inside the earths belly.
We'll done Riley.
We love teach the teacher.

Room G class certificates
