Room H had a great Enviro Action Day - here's what we got up to!

 

Another busy enviro day.

 Straight after morning tea Room S and T ripped into our butterfly garden. Last enviro day we all submitted our ideas and plans. Mr Belk edged it and the new compost was delivered on Thursday. Mr Ward worked with a group to spread all the dirt out ready for planting. It was finally time to get the plants in. Ms Ellis has been organising a range of plants to attract butterflies and other insects too: swan plants, lavender, Rosemary, nasturtium, daisies, cosmos, lemon balm, scabiosa, etc These plants all work together helping each other, that's why they're called companion plants. Having the rain come later was great for our newly transplanted plants. It was great to have so many dedicated helpers, especially in the clean up stage. It isn't over yet though. It's great to have our long term project finally created, now we need to monitor the swan plants so that they get a really good headstart before the butterflies begin laying eggs. Just before Ms Ellis left for the day she noticed the wind was whipping around the corner so Mrs Finlayson helped her stake the scrawny stalks of the swan plants.

What a busy day! After the enviro assembly, our first task was going with our buddy class to pick up litter in our assigned area around our community. Everybody was amazed how much glass we picked up. The weirdest item probably was a coat hanger and the grossest was a dead hedgehog. But we did leave that where it was. 

 

Food always tastes better when you have been working hard outside in the fresh air. It was great to have our pizzas to keep the machines fuelled up. Mrs Munro we are really fortunate to have you on days like this. A big thank you to our chief oven supervisors too.  Our pizzas were perfect.
