Dante tells the time...

Potato Clock!

How it works:

The copper, zinc and potatoes create a simple battery that makes the energy to operate the clock. The potatoes work as a device called a electro-chemical cell. It converts the chemical energy stored in the copper and zinc into electrical energy. Two potatoes are needed to power the clock. A cell works because of the chemical properties of the copper and zinc. The different properties cause tiny particles charged with electricity ( ions ) to move between the copper and zinc. This flow is called an electric current. The potato contains the particles that allow the current to flow, but stops the copper and zinc touching. Electric current also flows along the wires between the copper and zinc and the clock. This current makes the clock work.

Amazing Athletics...

Thursday night was wet, the teachers were worried and the students anxious...Would Athletics Day be postponed, would rain ruin everything?
NO! The day was perfect, not too warm but dry and suitable for running, jumping and throwing. All were participating eagerly, attitudes and effort were high and behaviour fantastic.
Thanks Seniors for another successful Athletics Day. Congratulations to all the winners.

And it should be mentioned that Puriri won the House Relay- Way to go Puriri! In fairness I should also add Totara won the Progessive Relay- well done.

David's EOTC

ETOC means education outside the classroom. David was lucky enough to go on a tropical holiday to Rarotonga.
He brought back a map showing us where he had been and what activities he had been up to while on holiday. Everyone in Rm I was very interested. Thanks David for sharing.
