Every Thursday the Senior Team have the wonderful Debbie run them through their football paces. It is an excellent programme and everyone is always keen for Thursday to roll around.

Kindness Counts!

Ella and Nolan both won prizes in the ican competition. They had to design a poster that displayed kindness. They were both very happy to receive Warehouse vouchers. Well done winners!

Congratulations Enviro Team Representatives

Last Thursday an amazing group of students from our 3 enviro groups went to a council meeting with a proposal. They wanted toileting facilities in Kitchener Park where they spend time helping with planting. They spoke beautifully with a lot of knowledge and clear, thought out justifications for this spending. 

They must have been amazing because as reported on Stuff and in the Feilding Herald the council has agreed with the proposal and are now starting the process to implement composting toilets.

Way to go MSS Enviro groups, well done!

Pa Cribb's Te Reo Teachings

Every Tuesday morning the staff have a meeting. We start this meeting with Mr Cribb hooking us in with some Te Reo learning. This week he reminded us that Matariki is coming up.

The teachers then pass this learning on to our students. Today when we were reading Kiwi Kids we came across a Te Reo video we really enjoyed and thought you would like to share. Enjoy...

Sorry everyone but we have to cancel the Bike Out due to a 100% chance of rain at 12 noon and throughout the afternoon.  Like the children, the teachers are very disappointed as we have worked very hard to make it happen.  Thanks to the many parents who have also put themselves out to accompany us - we appreciate your support. We hope to have a fun bike day next term to make up for it.

Unfortunately, due to the wet and slippery conditions the Bike Out has been postponed until further notice.  Unless Senior Team Students normally bike to school please leave bikes at home and children must be in full school uniform.  Today is now a normal school day.  Thanks

Litterless Lunches

Don't forget we are an Enviroschool. Our green rainbow encourages us to be environmentally sustainable. One way we can do this is by having litterless lunches. Also you might just get a token from the Litterless Lunch monitors.

Last term each class created a picture displaying their class garden on Enviro Day. There were some amazing finished results, we are all very creative and clever!

Reciprocal Reading in Rm I

Look at all the members of our Hogwarts reading group participate in a session. Excellent leadership from Hunter and Jack today. The leaders have to make a prediction, clarify, facilitate questions about the text and then finally summarise the story.

Today Room T went to the exciting   life education bus and learnt about the big and incredible 

 body. First thing that we talked about was the bigest muscle in the body ... Then we played a  game of  talking tennis. It might sound interesting but it's just talking. And then we did the personality haka.                 

It's a good thing the bus didn't tip over when we jumped! Did you know when we are born as babies we have 100,000,000,000 brain cells!!!

FEILDING INTERSCHOOL SWIMMING CARNIVAL

On Monday night our MSS Swim Team represented the school at the Feilding Interschool Swimming Carnival held at the Makino Pool,  Despite the very chilly conditions, the swimmers performed wonderfully with Taryn Backhouse coming a very creditable second in the Penhey Cup and our Relay Teams coming first and third in their event. The MSS 1 team now hold the Fairs Cup for another year. Congratulations to you all and thank you to parents, friends and families for your support.

Constable Cree came to the senior team to share with us about important safety in preparation for our Bike Out. 

Helmets:

Try them in the store.

Make sure it has a safety sticker for New Zealand.

Check straps are not frayed or chewed.

Check the outside shell.

Check every single time. You may need to adjust it.

If your helmet is not done up YOU get the ticket, not your parents.

You should be riding on the road so that cars don't back over you when they come out of their driveways.

An adult should ride with you if you are under 10 years.

No child should be cycling at night.

Your bike should be suitable for your size today - touching the ground with your feet. The seat up to your hip.

Legal bikes must have:

2 brakes ( front and rear)

Rear red / orange reflector

Maintain your bike and you will be safe.

A air, B brakes, C chain

Oil your chain so it doesn't get rusty and it moves smoothly.

Rules.

1 metre from the kerb

Stick to the left.

Cycle in cycle lanes.

The same direction as traffic.

2 cyclists can ride side by side ( a breast)

If it is a narrow road ride single lane for your own safety.

Hop off and walk through an intersection/ roundabout if you are not sure.

No carrying other people on your bike. Adults can with a proper child passenger carrier.

Pegs are for tricks.

A pedestrian crossing is for pedestrians. Get off and walk across.

You must obey all road traffic rules. You are traffic.

3 seconds to indicate then both hands back on the handlebars.

We tagged a butterfly today

Today Room S tagged a beautiful butterfly it was very nerve raking when we put the tag on it

                         We caught it in a net before we tagged the butterfly.

The gigantic Beetroot

Guess what? We have the biggest Beetroot Ever!! Zak brought it to show the class. Zak's dad grew it using his Equisite gardening skills. 

We also had a competition to see how much it weighed. It weighed 1.9 kilograms!!! Jaycob guessed only one milo gram away!!!

Wow! Ben is as strong as a giant!

Cyber Safety - Parents

Last week the Senior Team classes visited each Senior Team teacher to learn about different aspects of cyber safety and being a Digital Citizen.

As a parent it is important that you know what your children is accessing online.  If you would like more information you may like to attend the following:

NETSAFE COMMUNITY SESSION: 6.00 - 7.00 p.m. FAHS Library Monday 6 March A session that covers key messages around the support that whānau and parents can be providing to give their young people the best opportunity to access and use digital technologies/internet/apps and sites in safe and meaningful ways. This covers aspects such as;  
Developing awareness of what young people are doing online
How long they’re spending online 
Managing aspects of ‘self’ online such as privacy 
Reporting in the first instance when something is not okay online Issues around the risky use of tech such as sexting and what to do when it occurs
Vulnerability to scams etc. online 
The focus would be on affirming and reassuring whānau and parents in the role of parenting and as it extends into online spaces now. 

First Teach the Teacher

In the morning me and my mum organised my teach the teacher .We made spring rolls Room I enjoyed them.

Have you read the story about the 3 little ..... They visited Rm I this morning during Teach the Teacher and left quite a mess! But they did enjoy themselves.

GETTING TO KNOW OUR CLASSMATES
