Hayley's Ambulance Ride

On Monday in term 1 me and some other lucky winners got to ride in a St John ambulance. It was a very bumpy ride! I got to sit in the back with a few others. Cassie's little sister got to lie on the stretcher! I had a smashing time!!! : )

Terrific Room T Experiments

 Terrific Room T has been testing out some experiments  in our zero waste education water booklets. We stared off by filling a  glass jar up with water. Secondly we poured  a drip of food colouring. Then we waited ... and waited...

The water represents the ocean, the red food  colouring represents all the pollution. As the water evaporates it cleans the water and all the food colouring (pollution) stays behind and gets the mixture gets darker as more water made it lighter. It's all part of the water cycle!!!

Dinosaurs visit Palmerston!

In the long weekend I went to see the Dinosaur Footprints exhibit at Te Manawa. There were dinosaur footprints in fossils. 

In NZ the dinosaur footprints will not last forever in their current locations. Waves and tides wear them away. We need to cut them out of the rocks to protect and store them away from their beach locations.

I enjoyed the exhibit a lot. There were models of dinosaurs. Go and have a look!

WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY

Please DON'T LITTER! 

When you litter it can go down storm water drains and lead out to the ocean. It could kill birds, turtles and sea animals. Plastic and rubbish can get stuck around their bodies, or they might eat it. They think it is food and then it gets stuck in their systems. Some birds have been found with gruesome items suffocating their organs. 

Are you an ANIMAL KILLER?

SORT IT OUT. Put your rubbish in the bin. Or even better recycle or use less rubbish.

YMCA Sports Stars

On Thursday Room H and the other senior classrooms do YMCA Sports Stars. Every week each class goes to the Scout Hall or out on the court to learn or improve sport skills. We have a lovely trainer/coach that teaches us skills and at the end we get to play a game. Sometimes it is silent ball or seaweed. We all have so much fun and have learnt lots.  Last week we were learning to shoot at a basketball hoop. It was hard to get the technique right.

Charlotte's Day Off School!

 On Thursday 21st of May,I went to the Gallipoli exhibition at Te Papa in Wellington. It was so awesome! The exhibition followed the stories of 8 people involved in the battle of Gallipoli that lasted 8 Months and killed a total of 130,842 which included 2,779 New Zealanders. My favourite part were the figures created by Weta Workshop.They looked so real.

At The Coach House

When we arrived at the Coach House museum, Carol Humphry, Crystal and Brooke’s Grandmother introduced herself and the other helpers. They showed us into the museum and we were split into 4 groups with a guide to show us around. My group started at the beginning of the museum which showed us all the native trees and what their woods looked like, (but there was not wood from a Puriri tree?!) In a cart that people used to buy stuff from was a creepy doll because it only had one eye. The horses looked real. Mrs. Mackie said they were real - they got stuffed! I think that is a bit yuck and since I love animals I think that might be a bit cruel.

We got a quiz booklet to fill in with things about the Anzac displays. I got all the answers right. After we looked at the Anzac display we went to look at the coaches and old machines. There was a coach that we could sit in. It belonged to a mailman who used to drive it from Feilding to Palmerton North with his horse. I really liked going to the Coach House Museum and I learned lots. Thank you to the senior team teachers and all the people at the Coach House and the parents who drove us there.   Ella

 This is a soccer ball fungus, Josh found it while he was mowing the lawn at his grandparents house. It smells like a rotten piece of meat. You would be very lucky to find one of these.

Kowhai House Captains

On May the 1^st  the Senior Team had the opportunity to go to the Coach House Museum. At the Coach House Museum we had to do a really easy quiz but it was fun at the same time. When we finished the quiz we got to look around the Coach House Museum. We saw awesome tractors and even got to go into a really huge mail carriage. That was epic. Aroha and I found some Kowhai wood, and since we are both the Kowhai House Captains and we are both in the best class, Room H, we had a photo taken with the kowhai wood. That was the highlight of the day! We really enjoyed the Coach House Museum. Thank you to Ms Todd and the other teachers and of course all the parents who took transport to the Coach House Museum and the volunteers who showed us around. We all loved seeing the awesome displays and we just had a great time.                                                  Lawson and Aroha

Brave Bess and the ANZAC Horses

About 80,000 horses went to war in WW1. One of them was Bess. Bess was the only horse to return to NZ to a farm near Bulls.

War experience...

 Bess's master led her onto the boat. The horses were put in tiny stables. They couldn't stretch or lie down, this was very painful for the horses. Their legs got swollen and stiff. One horse Jack got do swollen his skin began to fall off. His master had to massage his legs. Bess slowly got used to the noises of the guns and shells exploding around her. At first she was petrified. 

When the war was over the soldiers had to realise the terrible truth, they had to leave their beloved horses behind. Bess was the lucky one, the only horse to return to NZ. Her master always kept her close by. He was out riding her one day when she collapsed. Her master buried her where she lay on a hilltop over looking the green grass of home.

Bess was 23 when she died. Her master kept her in his heart forever.

Riley's Rugby Loot

For the second year in a row Riley's team took out the Te Kawau Rugby tournament. He plays for the Feilding Under 9 Yellows and after a hard day with multiple matches they walked away with the winning medals. Congratulations Riley!

Zero Waste

As an enviroschool that is currently involved in a Zero Waste programme our waste bins by our eating areas are a bit disappointing. We took some pictures to show you.
