We, in Rm I, think that mischievous Maui (AKA Ms Ellis) is foxing us.

But we loved it!

Jigging with Thornton

Thornton talked us through fishing for trout in NZ waterways. We found they must be 35+cm to be legal. Thornton and his Dad fish off a boat. With jigging you carefully drop the line in the water, you don't swing it back and cast it out. The most fish Thornton has caught is 7 in one trip.

Rm I were very interested and had many questions that Thornton answered well.

Maddie's Teach the Teacher

  What an enthusiastic and entertaining teacher Maddie was today in Room H. She taught us about internet memes and even organised a competition to make our own complete with prizes. Well done Maddie. 

Triad Learning

Each week we work together in our triad (group of 3) to complete Seesaw activities. This week because of illness we have had to mix up some of our groups.

Today Haylee played a word game with Rm I. They had to create the template then find as many words as they could. Everyone enjoyed the challenge.

Play dough in the Seniors????

 Kaden and his side kick Jack making play dough as Kaden's teach the teacher this week. We had lots of fun playing with it afterwards making snowmen and animals in a tightly fought competition. It took us back to our time in the Juniors. Thanks Kaden

Autumn Acrostic poems from Room S.

 We have been writing poems about ... yes, you guessed ... autumn. It took some very thorough planning. There needed to be a Simile, a hyperbole, an onomatopoeia, an alliteration, a personification and a metaphor. We also published these on Seesaw after taken a photo of autumn.

We certainly are getting better at using seesaw to record our learning.

Uenuku meets Elmo!?

This morning in Rm S our beloved Uenuku met Elmo the turtle. Uenuku was not sure about him, he chased her. She thought it was very strange that the rocks in Rm S move?!

Meet Teddy

Today Kyron brought his lovely 8 month old Yorkshire Terrier "Teddy" to school for his Teach the Teacher. Teddy was very cute and loved to sit and lie down on command...when there was a treat involved! 

Lilah's Elephant Toothpaste

This week we had a science experiment for Teach the Teacher when Lilah showed us how to make elephant toothpaste. She used yeast, warm water, dish washing liquid, bleach and food colouring. It didn't stop foaming for ages! Can you work out the science behind this experiment?

Teach The Teacher

This has started off with a hiss and a roar in Room H this term. In week 1 Ella taught uso how to make ooblek and we all had a messy go! In week 2 it was parlez vous Francais with Edie teaching us some words and we even had a quiz. This week Gracie showed us the steps to make a delicious chocolate cake which we all got to sample. Great work girls

After a planned lockdown drill in the morning no one was expecting a school evacuation in the afternoon but that's what happened! The fire brigade attended but soon we had the all clear and could return to class. We believe it was a rouge toasted sandwich to blame ...

Food for Thought

Nova has visited the Senior Team classes twice during this week to educate us about nutrition in food and best choices. 

She shared some startling facts:
* NZ children are the second unhealthiest in the world, NZ adults the third. 
* In 20 years it is estimated in NZ 50% of the adult population will have Type 2 diabetes.
* Type 2 diabetes are preventable. This condition is caused by poor eating habits and lack of fitness
We were pretty shocked by this information and were keen to learn more about nutrition. We are now confident with the food pyramid and what our bodies need to be healthy.
Her visits culminated in a class trip to New World. (Thank you to New World and the parents who accompanied us on our excursion).

The Abstars Teach the Teacher

Abbie and Abby enthralled Rm I with a very crafty Teach the Teacher. There was glue, glitter, glitter glue and notebooks. (Also a bit of a mess on the desk tops!)

Tomorrow we are allowed to wear a pink shirt to show our support of the Pink Shirt anti bullying movement. Below is the story of how it came about, a clip with some people you may recognise that were bullied when they were younger and a very cool flash mob.

An Epic Discovery...

During our library session today Ms Bennitt talked about Epic that is on all the library ipads. It is an amazing resource that is free to schools. It is a library of over 10, 000 books! You can read them, listen to them etc on the ipad. We are looking forward to getting it put onto our class ipads. It will be a wonderful resource for our Daily 5: Listen to Reading programme!

Geometry in Action in Rm I

Today we were working on drawing 3D shapes on isometric paper. It was fairly challenging, especially since the dots were so small!

Term 2 = Geometry!

The start of the term means Strand Maths and this term our focus is Geometry. Geometry is learning all about shapes and their properties. We like Geometry because there is a lot of hands on learning and fun activities.
Today as a warm down we had a lot of fun learning how to fold paper to create a Fortune Teller.

Chooks and Children!

The school chooks were happy to see the children back. It's been a quiet couple of weeks for them!

Congrats Mr Belk

After 35 years of being "The Best Caretaker in the World", Mr Belk was still keen for a wee bit of mischief. The Senior teachers were keen for a bit of horse rustling and "BLINGED" his trusty steed. 

All the Senior students appreciate everything you do with a hi-5 and a cheeky grin.

Wild, Wild West...

What an awesome day MSS had with their Wild West mufti day. The stage coach from the museum came as a reward for all the students following the rainbow. Everyone dressed up, there was a horse show on the field, it was the last day of school for Term 1, it was amazing!
