Room B is Room I's Buddy Class and when they visited us on Friday they were very excited about the very hungry caterpillar in their room. It had spent the day spinning its cocoon. Mrs Harris and the children told us first the caterpillars eat and poo, eat and poo until they get VERY fat. They then turn brown and find themselves a cozy nook in their branch. Lastly they slowly weave their cocoon. You can see their mouth moving as this process happens. These Gum Emperor moths are related to silk worms. Have a look at the photos we took of this caterpillar.
Welcome to the Senior Team Blog at Manchester Street School. Prepare to be amazed at all the astounding work from Room H, Room I, Room K, Room S and Room T.

Buddying Up!
We are really lucky to be class buddies with Rm B! We have enjoyed meeting them and this week we had a 'Read to Somebody' session with them. We brought in our favourite picture books to read to them. They told us all about the gum emperor caterpillar that is busy weaving its cocoon in their room!

Room H Class Charter
Room H have all signed a class charter which we have agreed are the learning and behaviour expectations that will make Room H a safe, happy and fun place for everyone to learn.
P.A.T Week
Every morning this week the Senior block will be very quiet, only the scratching of pencils and the rustle of paper will be heard.
All classes are involved daily in our Term 1 Progressive Achievement Tests.
Breaking News...
Mrs Palmer brought in a well eaten swan plant that had a monarch chrysalis on it. We were hoping to see it hatch and then fly. Unfortunately the butterfly was shy and hatched in the weekend. We did get to see it today though as we set it free into the wet weather of Feilding.
Something we discussed as a class though was a well known and beloved childhood book is inaccurate! Most of us had read and enjoyed 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' as children. In this book by Eric Carle the caterpillar goes into a cocoon and then hatches as a butterfly. We discovered that moths have cocoons and butterflies have chrysalises.
However it is a wonderful book that has been hugely successful.
Found!
Nathan the P.I
Nathan's eagle eyes spotted our missing monarch frantically flapping high up on the windows on the back wall of the class room.
We took him outside, (after a precarious rescue mission involving the ladder and Mrs Palmer) and set him free, after naming him 'Cheesey Bob'.
Unfortunately we had to release him into the wet grey weather that is today not the brilliant sun he would have been straining to get to yesterday.
M.I.A???!!!
Wanted!
Has anyone seen a beautiful monarch butterfly last seen on Friday hanging in a chrysalis in Rm I. Sometime after Saturday lunchtime it hatched and flew free.
Very disappointing timing, Rm I were hoping to see it hatch, dry and fly.

Seniors Splashing Finale!
For the past fortnight the entire Senior Team have been rushing backwards and forwards between the Makino Pools and school every afternoon. It has been a refreshing way to end the day for all the lucky students but not quite as much fun for the hot, sweaty heroes (the teachers).
Lots of learning has gone on and we look forward to displaying these skills in the upcoming Swimming Sports.

Daily 5 is Alive!
E.E.K.K!!!
Fantastic session of Read to Someone. Really impressed with the quality, focus and volume.
Big Ted visits the Seniors!
The incredible children of Room I were very focused in 'doing the right thing' around the school during Week 1. They were hunting for choice tokens and other enviro awards so they could get Big Ted! Success, Big Ted is in Rm I this week! Way to go! :)
