On Friday Room H
went to the Coach House Museum and we got to see the huge Anzac Day display
there. We saw horses, uniforms, Rolls of Honour, crosses and lots of other
things. A man called Mr Linklater told us all about Turkey and where the soldiers landed and also lots of stuff about WWI. I found it very
interesting. Tom
Welcome to the Senior Team Blog at Manchester Street School. Prepare to be amazed at all the astounding work from Room H, Room I, Room K, Room S and Room T.

Great-great Granddad's Uniform
My
Great-great Granddad was in World War I and sadly he didn’t make it back home.
His jacket was one of a kind and they don’t make them any more but lucky me I
have my Great-great Granddad’s jacket. When my Granddad was in the trenches I
heard that it was very sad at the front line. My Granddad had to plant bombs
and plan
counter-attacks
on the enemy. His canteen (drink bottle) also has a lot of moth holes. His
helmet is so heavy it’s like you’re lifting weights. It’s also got bullet hole dents
in it.

My ANZAC PROJECT
The
activity I enjoyed the most was making the poppy because I learnt that poppies
have five petals instead of four.
I also
learnt that women worked in munitions factories, in the women’s land army
(farming), as railway guards and ticket collectors, bus and tram conductors,
postal workers, police, fire fighters, bank tellers and clerks, as engineers and
also worked as nurses during the war.
An
interesting fact I learnt was that slugs were useful because they could detect
mustard gas.
The
thing I am proudest on my homework is the poppy that I created.

My Anzac Project
My
grandma gave me heaps of information about all of my relatives in the war.
My
great grandfather, Cyril Brownlie, was a senior athletics champion and also the
high jump champion with a record leap of 5ft 4inches. He was also senior handball
champion and won a gold medal.
The
thing I am proudest of about my project is I learned that five of my relatives went to
war and three returned. By

Rm I remembers the ANZACs
Over the holidays we worked on our ANZAC task sheet. Here is some of the amazing work we produced! Mrs Palmer was really impressed with the time and effort we put in.
