Jonty Teaches the Teacher

I have just recently joined the Feilding Golf Club. With my Mum organising and running the Junior Team and Dad who is president of the club it was likely I would take up playing.
Today I showed Rm I all the clubs I use, explained their differences and then I showed Rm I how to hit with them.

Numeracy Challenges

Today in Rm I's Numeracy we looked at 'The 1-9 Magic Square'

 A magic square where you can enter the numbers into a 3x3 square.

 The three rows, three columns and two diagonals all must sum to the same total.

We all enjoyed the challenge and some of us even solved it!
Well done Mirryn who solved it first.

Snippets of writing from Room G
Where did your jandals take you this summer?

The beach
To the sandy, sparkly, beautiful beach with my tummy full of sweet and
sour blueberries which my family picked from Wellington.
To my chip stealing personality at the beach. My dad wasn’t impressed
when his chips disappeared down my mouth.

Camping
On the last Friday, I went camping with my Dad, my sister Kahlei and Keiren for my step mum’s birthday. Everyday Keiren and I nagged the parents to go swimming - it was too hot! We found a jumping spot at the river and we had a blast!

Out and about
It was Xbox 360 at home with my brothers and we played Call of Duty Black Ops 3. We also went to Mahia and we hired a batch with some friends. I went to Hamilton to see my family and it was my sister's birthday.

Rm I's Swimming Sports Experiences...

Some Of Rm I's sentences about our experience yesterday:

Brrr, I just hopped out of the freezing cold, glistening water... Summer

Dante was shaking like a hypothermia victim...Kaden

I had butterflies flapping in my stomach before my race...Crystal

When I hopped out of the water I was shivering so much it felt like I was on a treadmill...Jonty

Freezing children huddled together like penguins on ice seeking warmth...Jayde

Noise like a thousand seagulls attacking a loaf of bread. Where was I? Looking after the Seniors!  Mrs Palmer

SWIMMING SPORTS

What a great day we had yesterday!  Well done to all our students who challenged themselves and swam so well.  Here are just a few pics - more to follow:

Room G Class Certificates

This week for Room G's Rainbow Stars the certificates went to:
Seth Bain for entertaining, descriptive writing!
Kane Waldman for consistent respectfulness and responsibility.

Room S's Envrio Job

Room S's Enviro Job is doing the food bins. Four people a week do it. Two people do the Seniors and the other two people do the Middles and Juniors. After we do the food bin run we go to the nursey and empty it out into the white food bin bucket. We do this everyday after lunch. We do this because  it feeds the worms and it also helps the earth by not wasting fruit and bread crusts. We wash the buckets that we use to collect the food scraps from the mini red buckets that all the class's have. We really enjoy doing this  because it helps us remember that we need to compost it.

Buddy Classes

Room H and Room C are buddy classes and last Friday we had our first get-together to buddy up and find out some things about each other.  It was lovely for Mrs Nelson and I to see students talking, laughing and working together as they asked each other questions and found out things they had in common.

Room S Student Of The Week

Week 1 and week 2 Bonnie and Libby got student of the week. I,(Bonnie), got student of the week because I was focusing on my learning. I, (Libby), got student of the week for being on task. I,(Bonnie) , felt amazed that I was the first one in the class for being student of the week. I felt stunned. On week 2 I, (Libby), felt very surprised when Ms Ellis called my name. I was so happy. The thing that you get if you are student of the week is a trophy. We were both very happy that we got to keep it in our room for a week. It is also very shiny and it has got Student Of The Week graved on it. We loved being Student Of The Week.

RAINBOW PALS

This week the Rainbow Pals have started training. It is a very important responsibility being a Rainbow Pal. They  will be responsible for organising, running and umpiring games for the whole school.
Today we learned these things;
Use your whistle correctly and loudly so you control the game
Play fairly.
Don't talk over the top of people who are talking.
How to sort out into even teams.
The basics of how to ref a game.
What to do if students talk back.
And we also got to have a game of dodge ball.
Thanks for our friends who came to play.

HIMATANGI BEACH SURF EDUCATION

The Senior Team have had a great couple of days at the Himatangi Surf Lifesaving Club learning all about how to stay safe at the beach.  We learned about first aid, all the gear that the Surf Club use in their rescues, the drills they do to stay fit, rip currents and how to get out of them, being sunsmart and how to have lots of fun in the water.  Here is some of what we got up to:

And then the parents had a go!

You've Got The Power!

Today the amazing Elgregoe came to MSS to perform a  magical illusion show for us. He had birds, a bunny, Tom the Trust Power cheetah and Sue the floating illusionist assisting him. He gave a strong message about anti-bullying. Tom told us to use our W.I.T.S! This means:
Walk away
Ignore
Talk to someone
Stop
Room I loved the performance because he used humour and magic to deliver an important message.
Gemma really enjoyed the show as she got to participate! She went fishing and caught lots of new friends. Elgregoe also gave her a prize, a helping hands highlighter. This reminds us hands are for helping not for hurting. Bring your helping hands to school daily!

Visitor to Rm I

Today Rm I were gifted with the presence of two furry visitors. The two koalas have been bored at home and decided to visit a Senior Team class and see what the leaders of MSS get up to during the day. A good day was had by all. However due to their lower literacy levels and counting on their paws the duo may need to go to a junior class next visit.

It's all going swimmingly!?

Every afternoon the whole Senior Team head off to the Makino for swimming. There are 6 classes spread across the pool so it is very full and busy. On these hot afternoons it has been wonderfully refreshing.
